- As the live word cloud clearly shows, business travel emerged as the single top priority for the EU strategy on sustainable tourism
- The result reflects input from a broad, well-attended and representative cross-section of European tourism and mobility stakeholders
This deserves political attention. Business travel is not a niche segment; it is a strategic lever for:
- European connectivity
- Regional economic resilience
- More efficient and sustainable use of transport, MICE and hospitality infrastructure
- Year-round, higher-value demand that supports jobs, SMEs and territorial cohesion
At a time when the EU is placing renewed emphasis on competitiveness and a pro-business agenda, it is notable that business travel remains excluded from the emerging EU tourism policy framework, despite it being a clear priority for almost the entire tourism and mobility ecosystem.
To the European Commission , European Parliament and Council:
Ensure that business travel is explicitly recognised and addressed in the further development and political anchoring of the EU strategy on sustainable tourism. Without it, the framework remains incomplete.
Recognising business travel is about Europe leading globally on smart, competitive and sustainable business and tourism mobility.
BT4Europe stands ready to contribute sector-wide expertise, data and policy insight in support of the Commission proposal, Parliamentary and Council work
A future-proof European tourism strategy requires clear political choices.
Business travel must be one of them.
