BT4Europe welcomes the European Parliament’s ongoing work on connecting Europe through high-speed rail and creating a more integrated, interoperable and passenger-focused European rail network.
Lotten Fowler, BT4Europe, recently attended an informal roundtable discussion on high-speed rail, organised by Ludovica Serafini, ENVI and TRAN Advisor to MEP Ana Vasconcelos, together with other European stakeholders.
A successful rail strategy must not only connect capitals but also strengthen links between regions, businesses and people across Europe.
We therefore welcome the emphasis on interoperability, cross-border connections and ensuring that high-speed rail development complements existing regional and conventional rail services.
One of the most important challenges remains financing.
Delivering a truly European high-speed rail network will require substantial investment and long-term commitment. In this context, we welcome the creative thinking around mobilising Emissions Trading System (ETS) revenues to help bridge the funding gap and accelerate rail development.
For business travellers, better rail connectivity means more efficient journeys, stronger passenger rights, improved ticketing solutions and a more sustainable transport system overall.
We look forward to following the next steps in this process and remain committed to supporting initiatives that improve the travel experience across Europe.
