There are many risks to consider when sending travelers abroad. What precautions are being taken in Africa and how is business travel being affected?
ACTE’s partner — the African Business Travel Association — reports business as usual from South Africa to most African hubs. While many companies have imposed travel bans to the most badly affected areas (Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea), travel to other regions continues. The South African government has banned entry of West Africans from these 3 countries, and has also requested companies not to send travelers to these regions unless for extremely necessary reasons.

Understanding the virus, how it spreads, and educating travelers on basic hygiene is key. Staying alert for symptoms in yourself and others, and avoiding rural areas in Africa where poor hygiene and limited medical facilities exist is of vital importance. The emergence of the Ebola virus has also emphasized the significance of tracking travelers and having an extraction plan.
