- A stronger and clearer framework for AIR PASSENGER RIGHTS is good news for travellers across Europe
BT4Europe welcomes the landmark agreement reached by the European Parliament and the Council on the revision of EU air passenger rights.
After more than a decade of discussions, Europe is preserving key passenger protections while introducing a range of practical improvements that will make travelling easier, more predictable and more transparent.
For business travellers in particular, several elements stand out:
- Existing compensation rights for delays remain in place, preserving an important level of protection when travel plans are disrupted.
- Stronger rerouting rights mean airlines must offer alternative travel solutions more quickly, including on other carriers or transport modes where appropriate.
- Clearer communication requirements will ensure passengers receive timely information, easier access to claims processes and faster responses from airlines.
- Greater transparency in pricing and baggage policies will make it easier to compare travel options and manage travel budgets.
- Enhanced protections for passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility further strengthen the inclusiveness of European travel.
From a BT4Europe perspective, this agreement represents a significant step forward. It delivers greater certainty for travellers while contributing to a more seamless and passenger-focused travel experience across Europe.
We congratulate the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of Europe for bringing these long negotiations to a successful conclusion.
The outcome demonstrates that it is possible to modernise the framework while maintaining Europe’s high standards of passenger protection.
